Survivor Pool: Week 4

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL

With the NFL season yet to see a significant upset, there still remains 1065 of the 1499 members surviving in the pool. Last week we just squeaked out a victory when the Dallas Cowboys defeated the Miami Dolphins 31-6.

I think I am seeing a trend developing here, and will be picking the San Diego Chargers of Los Angeles to defeat the woeful Dolphins this week. Hey, if it were not for teams playing divisional opponents twice a year, you could pick against Miami every week and you'd be right. This game checks off a couple boxes for me, resulting in the pick.

First, the Chargers are the biggest favorite of the week at -14.5, which they will cover. You also have a desperate Charger team that has let two games slip away that they should have won. Much like the Eagles last night, the Chargers will be heavily motivated for a good showing for fear of falling to 1-3 and getting left in the dust of the Chiefs who are looking to go 4-0.

Philip Rivers has too much pride to be part of the franchise that loses to two 1-15 teams in his career and will look to reignite the Charger Super Bowl hype. Lucky for me, this will be one of the local games for the San Diego market so I will get to witness first hand just how bad the Dolphins are.

Godspeed Mr. Rosen.

Survivor Pool: Week 6

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL

Well it was quite refreshing seeing the Kansas City Chiefs fall last week to the Indianapolis Colts. I am developing a theory that good guy Andrew Luck just wanted Jacoby Brissett to get a fair shake at starting QB after he earned it filling in for Tom Brady a few years back during the Deflategate suspension. With that loss we saw another 135 members drop out of the pool followed by 43 poor saps who thought the Bears were a good team. Heck, a team slightly better than the Raiders would have rolled that pathetic Bears offense, rather than gift them a turnover to make it look close. This brings the remaining entrants down to a manageable 326.

This week I am going with the Baltimore Ravens to defeat the Cincinnati Bengals. They opened up as the 2nd biggest favorite of the week at home -11.5, following only the Patriots at -16.5 who mopped the Giants Thursday night. Pretty simple logic here, I already selected the Pats earlier this year and this doesn't look like a spot for the Bengals to get their first W. In fact, this might be a good point in the season for the Bengals to consider losing all of their games and get a decent QB in the draft. By default, either the Dolphins or Redskins will get a win this week, which will give them a leg up, especially if that winner is Miami.

I do believe the Ravens will be the most popular pick this week so if you want to go off the board a little might I suggest going with the Chargers against the Steeler's backup's backup. They will be facing a tough Pittsburgh crowd at Dignity Health Sports Park, but I think ole Phil and the guys can overcome the noise.

On a final note, I would like anyone to submit a theory as to how the Cleveland shit Browns opened as a favorite vs the Seattle Seahawks. Did another of Russel Wilson's teammates sleep with his wife or something?

NFL Confidence Pool Picks & Strategy 2020 - Week 7

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL

Now things are getting good!

This week may be the first week in which there are several games that are seemingly too close to call. Sure you still have games like the Chiefs/Broncos and the Jets don’t have a bye week so there’s that. But get a few lines down, and you could make a case for every remaining game to be on every remaining line.

It’s week like this that we need to be on our game! Strong results in tough weeks mean further separation for us from the rest of the pack in your yearlong pool.

So let’s get at it!

Week 7 – HERE WE GO!!!!

(HOME TEAM IN CAPS)

14 – Buffalo over NEW YORK JETS – It takes a special scenario to have a road team on our top line and the Jets are pretty special this year. But it’s just the top line, it’s not like the top TWO lines are road teams…

13 – Kansas City over DENVER – …wait a minute. OK I know Denver beat the Pats last week but they have to deal with a Chiefs team that now doesn’t take divisional games for granted.

12 – LOS ANGELES CHARGERS over Jacksonville – I would like to thank the Jaguars for helping keeping my one-win prediction alive and well!

11 – LOS ANGELES RAMS over Chicago – I have been on the Bears case pretty much all season. If they can win in LA, I will officially consider them a contender.

10 – NEW ORLEANS over Carolina – Reports are coming out that Michael Thomas may not be playing in this one either. If he doesn’t, feel free to drop the Saints a few lines.

9 – PHILADELPHIA over New  York Giants – Oh the NFC East. My BOLD PREDICTION for this week is that THE EAGLES WILL WIN THE NFC EAST…WITH ONLY SIX WINS.

8 – Seattle over ARIZONA – This is where games get really hard to rank. The Cardinals could pull this out but the Seahawks look pretty strong.

7 – Green Bay over HOUSTON – Rodgers and the boys will have a lot to prove after their embarrassing performance in Tampa last week.

6 – TENNESSEE over Pittsburgh – Derrick Henry vs the Steelers defense is the proverbial “irresistible force meeting the immovable object” and should provide a fantastic game!

5 – Tampa Bay over LAS VEGAS – I’ve been a Raiders fan long enough to know that winning two big games in a row just doesn’t happen.

4 – Cleveland over CINCINNATI – The battle of Ohio…is probably exciting for those in Ohio…probably.

3 – NEW ENGLAND over San Francisco – If ever there was a game involving two teams that desperately need a win.

2 – Detroit over ATLANTA – The Falcons won last week…doesn’t mean that we have to have any sort of confidence in them.

1 – Dallas over WASHINGTON – Depending on how the Giants/Eagles game goes, one of these teams could be in first place…just let that sink in.

NFL Confidence Pool Picks & Strategy 2020 - Week 11

Published in Fantasy Football / NFL
Don’t look now but we are getting close to the end of the season.

If you are somewhere in the middle of your season long pool, now is the time to start making your move! Though, if you have been following the picks here – obviously you are towards the top :)

So let’s keep it rolling!

Week 11 – HERE WE GO!!!!

(HOME TEAM IN CAPS)

14 – Pittsburgh over JACKSONVILLE – Normally I’m not big on putting a road team on the top line. But, I mean, come on…

13 – MINNESOTA over Dallas – Not too much about the Cowboys makes me think they can stop the roll the Vikings have been on the last few weeks.

12 – LOS ANGELES CHARGERS over New York Jets – Justin Herbert vs Sam Darnold – basically Darnold getting a chance to see what the Jets were hoping he would be.

11 – CLEVELAND over Philadelphia – Two storied franchises ready to provide what I’m sure will be, well, a game.

10 – NEW ORLEANS over Atlanta – No Brees, no problem when you’re going up against the Falcons.

9 – TAMPA BAY over Los Angeles Rams – When was the last time we had three prime time games with six teams with a .667 or better win percentage?

8 – BALTIMORE over Tennessee – Remember when the Titans seemed dominant? Now…not so much. My BOLD PREDICTION for this week is thanks to the crowded AFC playoff race, THE TITANS WILL NOT MAKE
THE PLAYOFFS.

7 – SEATTLE over Arizona – Arizona is looking good, but it is just too hard to see the Seahawks continue to struggle back at home.

6 – HOUSTON over New England –  Cam and friends looked good last week – I just don’t see them being able to do the same on the road.

5 – CAROLINA over Detroit – This is a battle of teams that can look like contenders or pretenders depending on the week. Lucky for the Panthers this is in Charlotte.

4 – Green Bay over INDIANAPOLIS – The Packers need a statement win – and I think Aaron Rodgers knows that.

3 – Cincinnati over WASHINGTON – I am really excited to see Alex Smith win his first game as a starter…just won’t happen yet.

2 – Kansas City over LAS VEGAS – I was all set to pick the Raiders here, but when nearly your entire defense is placed on the COVID list, makes it hard to contain the Chiefs’ offense.

1 – DENVER over Miami – Just seems like a trap game that the Dolphins will fall into.
