83-yard Rushing Attempt
Jonathan Taylor set a franchise record with an 83-yard rush that amazingly did not score a touchdown. Taylor is averaging 25.9 points per game over the last 3 weeks, he has 441 yards from scrimmage and 5 touchdowns over that time. He’s averaging 6.7 yards per carry during those games and had an explosive 116 yards of receiving in Week 5. Taylor now sits as the RB4 on the season – this week he finished as the RB1 and he’s been in the top 10 for the past 3 weeks. Among the top 5 fantasy RBs, only Austin Ekeler has fewer touches (100) than Taylor (102). Taylor had at least 3x as many yards as anyone else on his team, save for TY Hilton, who he almost doubled up, as TY had 80 yards against an opponent who he routinely torches, despite having just returned from injury.
115 Passing Yards
Jalen Hurts ended the day on Sunday as the QB4 on the week, despite completing just 12 passes for 115 yards and 1 INT. His real fantasy value comes from his legs – he had 44 yards on the ground and found the end zone twice, netting him a cool 26 fantasy points. His passing yards were less than half of all of the top 12 QBs this week, except for Aaron Rodgers, who didn’t need to throw the ball much to continue owning the Bears. But let’s go back to Hurts – this week was his 6th consecutive game this season (i.e.. all of them) where he has scored at least 21 fantasy points. He is the QB4 on the year, and is just about 10 points behind the leader, Patrick Mahomes. Hurts may continue to turn in lackluster passing performances over and over again, but his fantasy value is undeniable and he’s clearly a must-start every week. He has matchups coming up against Detroit and both New York teams before his bye in Week 14, so there are some good matchups coming up for the player with the highest floor in all of fantasy football.
9 Kickers in Double Digits
This week, 9 kickers scored double-digit fantasy points, and only 3 of them were owned in the drinkfive.com fantasy league. Leading the way was Matthew Wright, owned in just 1% of Fleaflicker leagues. Wright broke a streak of 5 consecutive games for the Jaguars in which they did not convert a FG. Wright went 3/3 on field goals in the game in London, including a 54-yard masterpiece that had Kevin Harlan fooled and resulted in a really great call. Wright also kicked the game winner as time expired, snapping the Jaguars losing streak at 20 games – a streak which started following Week 1 of last year, which was their only win of the season. Despite it being a lower week for kicker scoring – nobody made more than 3 field goals in any game so far in Week 6, there was only 1 missed extra point across the league, a far cry from the 13 extra points that were missed last week.
11 Points Allowed
Congrats to the top D/ST of the week, the Los Angeles Rams. Their 16 points on the week increased their season total points by 66%, showing that you really just need to be playing matchups when it comes to selecting a D/ST. The Rams managed to take the top spot by just beating the snot out of the Giants with 3 INTs, 4 sacks and 1 fumble recovery to go with just 11 points allowed. In fact, the 38-11 victory completed an NFL scorigami. If you haven’t heard of a scorigami, check it out here. This is the first of the season, which is probably rare since there were 12 all of last season. I suppose fewer and fewer each year is the nature of a scorigami. The last one we had was the Steelers-Browns playoff game last year which ended 48-37. Can you tell I quickly ran out of things to say about the Rams yesterday? Their beatdown of the Giants was about as ho-hum as it gets.
30 WRs with 10+ Points
Week 5 saw a solid 30 wide receivers put up at least 10 fantasy points, which is just a middle of the road total for the year. What sticks out to me is that only 5 players had at least 100 receiving yards on the day, showing that half PPR and full PPR as the new standards are here to stay for anyone that loves points in fantasy football, which is probably all of us. Previously this year, the fewest number of WRs with 100+ receiving yards was 10, which happened twice. Leading the way last week was CeeDee Lamb with 149 yards – 56 of those yards came on the Cowboys final drive which took place in OT, capped off by Lamb’s 35-yard TD reception to walk-off the game. Honorable mention for a WR stat monster goes to Ja’Marr Chase, who is 30th among WRs with only 27 receptions, but 4th overall in receiving yards with 553. He has 19 fewer receptions than the 3 men ahead of him, all of whom are sitting on 46 receptions for the year.

14 Fantasy Points in 12 Minutes
Thursday night, we were treated to another marvelous fantasy performance from the New England Patriots D/ST. They put up a total of 28 points, good for the 7th highest fantasy score on a week with some gigantic point totals. The Patriots accounted for 15 of their points in just the 4th quarter alone, starting it off with a sack of Matt Ryan on the first play of the quarter. They followed that up with 4 interceptions of three different passers, one of them being returned for a touchdown. They are now averaging 16.8 points per game over the last 5 weeks and are the top D/ST on the season, beating out the Buffalo Bills D/ST by 17 points. The Bills, the previous leaders in the position, did themselves no favors last week with a shocking -4-point performance, the worst score that can be put up by a D/ST.
1.48 Points Per Touch
Jonathan Taylor had a massive 35 total touches in his incredible game this weekend. Taylor had a career high 32 rushing attempts, scored 5 TDs (his previous career high was 2), and had 204 yards from scrimmage. His career high there is 254, so he has some work to do on that front, I suppose. Taylor scored 51.9 points on the day and managed to average 1.48 points per touch – anything north of 1 point per touch is generally considered very good from an RB. Taylor is now up to 1.10 points per touch on the season, which is incredible for a workhorse back who has 225 touches on the season now. Not to be outdone in efficiency, Austin Ekeler had a massive 2.26 points per touch on Sunday night. Ekeler might not have found the end zone 5 times, but 4 wasn’t bad, on his way to 38.5 total fantasy points and a distant second place finish for total fantasy points on the week. Ekeler is the first player in 10 years to have 2 rushing and 2 receiving TDs in the same game. The last time it happened was Maurice Jones-Drew on December 11, 2011.
253.04 Fantasy Points
The number one player in all of fantasy player this season is now Jalen Hurts, just as we all suspected. Hurts has managed this with a 61.6% completion rate, good for 34th among qualifying QBs, and a 90.4 QB rating, good for 26th among qualifying QBs. Hurts is making a mockery of what we once considered to be a good QB in the league, but it’s hard to argue with his 618 rushing yards (9th among all players) and 8 touchdowns on the ground (5th among all players). He does have a TD to INT ratio of 13:5 which, admittedly, is not atrocious, but is certainly nothing to brag about either. If Hurts only ran the ball, he would be the RB23 on the season, but when you add in his passing stats and consider the fact that there are no particularly dominant QBs this season among the traditional talents, you get the top play in all of fantasy football. Hurts was drafted as the QB12 this year, 95th overall on average. With a big game tonight, at least 31.14 points, Tom Brady could restore some order to all of this chaos. But then again, it’s not like me to root for Brady, so let chaos reign!
23 Fantasy Points Per Game
The RB3 on the season is still Derrick Henry, with 184.3 fantasy points in just 8 weeks, he was averaging 23 points per game when he was put on the IR. That’s still the best non-QB average points per game this season. There are only 5 QBs who have a better per-game average, by the way. Henry was on a pace to have a career year, and he still is likely to finish in the top 20 of total scrimmage yards by RBs this year, and probably will be a top-10 finisher among RBs with 11 total touchdowns. I don’t normally write these blurbs about players who are done for the season (the fantasy season, anyways), but last week we were missing 6 of the top 20 scoring RBs who were out with either injuries or bye weeks, so I thought it was appropriate to make one more toast to King Henry the Titan.
4.64 Yards Per Catch
Rondale Moore has the distinction this week of leading the league in receptions with 11. No other player had more than 9 catches, so congrats to the man who had 11 catches….and 10.6 total points in half PPR. 51 yards is all he could manage on 11 catches. Moore had 2 catches netting him negative yards. His longest catch on the day was 11 yards. Moore sits as the WR27 on the week, a feat that is absurdly hard to do when you have 11 receptions. At least he was a perfect 11 for 11 on the day, catching every single one of his targets, even if maybe he should have just gone ahead and dropped his -5-yard reception. There were 8 wide receivers who had fewer yards than he did, but still managed to score more points. All of those players found the end zone. This game rivals the stat line that Cole Beasley put up in week 9, 8 receptions for 33 yards totaling 7.3 points.

54 Points
The Dallas Cowboys scored 14 more points than any other team on Sunday, putting up a whopping 54 on Sunday Night Football against the Colts. The Colts would have needed the help of all 3 other teams in the AFC South to beat the Cowboys on Sunday, and that would have only been by a field goal. One of the stats that stuck out to me about the Cowboys is that they scored so many points with so few yards. They had only 385 yards of offense. Tony Pollard led the team with just 106 yards from scrimmage. No other player had over 100. Dak Prescott threw for just 170 yards. Dallas didn’t even have more time of possession than the Colts. What they did do is score 5 touchdowns in the 4th quarter. Helps when your average starting position is on the 33 yard-line.
29.1 Fantasy Points
Amon-Ra St. Brown had 11 receptions on 12 targets (both season highs) on Sunday and showed why he’s one of the best WRs in the league when healthy. In the games he’s not injured, he averages 17.8 points per game, good for 5th in the league. Despite missing a game for injury and being hurt in 2 others, he’s still the overall WR7 on the season. He is a target machine, averaging over 10 targets per game in those 9 games where he’s started off healthy this season. It’s very important to get St. Brown involved early and often in games. This year he has 5 games with 8 or more receptions. While the Lions are a respectable 3-2 in those games, both those losses have come against the Eagles and Bills – two teams clearly out of their league. St. Brown is going to be perhaps the most important part of the Lions if their team has any measure of success in the near future.
34.40 Fantasy Points
Jalen Hurts leads the league in fantasy points this week with 34.40 points. He’s only scored more than that once in his career, but it’s his consistency that I’m amazed by. This year, he only has 2 games below 20 points and only 3 games below 24. Throughout his career, he has 21 games with at least 20 fantasy points, and he’s only started 31 games in his career. Hurts is really developing into a top-tier QB before our eyes. He’s an MVP candidate this year, if not the leading one right now. He did almost all his damage on Sunday with his arm – he only ran 5 times for 12 yards, though he did find the end zone, which always helps the old point total. He’s now the QB2 on the season, just behind Patrick Mahomes and just ahead of Josh Allen. The top tier of QBs has more than 50 points on the QB5. They have truly separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
3-0 in 2022
Joe Burrow has now played the Chiefs 3 times in 2022. Twice last season and once this season now. He’s 3-0. He’s only played 3 times against the Chiefs – a perfect record against them is basically unheard of. In those 3 games, he has 8 touchdowns and just one INT, along with a rushing TD on top of that. He is especially good in the regular season, averaging 366 yards per game (thanks to an epic 446-yard performance last year, following up his 525-yard one the week before). On Sunday he completed over 80% of his passes and ran the ball a career-high 11 times. His career stats only get better as the year goes on. He’s great in December, completing almost 73% of his passes, and even better in January, so watch out. Sure, he’s never beaten the Browns (0-4) and has a losing record when playing inside his own division (5-8), but he’s taken down Patrick Mahomes 3 times, and that’s plenty for Bengals fans to hang their hat on.
27 Points on D/ST
Not just a fantasy stat, this is also a real-life stat! The Cleveland Browns scored 27 points against the Texans, none of them on offense. Thanks, Deshaun. No, I’m not salty that I started him this week. Not at all…but I digress. The Browns D/ST had an incredible fantasy day. They scored 27 fantasy points, now the high-water mark on the season after 3 teams were tied at 26 points. The Browns scored two defensive TDs and had a punt returned for a touchdown as well. A pair each of INTs and fumble recoveries capped off an impressive day over the hapless Texans, who were powerless, despite shutting the Browns' offense out.
