We're back for more episodes of Retrospectical in 2016 and leading with an interesting show about 3 very different festivals in the US that share the same general theme - food! From Baconfest Chicago to the National Lentil Festival and the Gilroy Garlic Festival, the next few months are filled with some great events. We go into details and interview representatives from each festival: Seth Zurer, co-founder of Baconfest, Alexandria Anderson, director of the Lentil festival and David Reynolds, president of the Garlic festival.
Between all of the insights into their specific events provided by our special guests, our own mini beerfest during the show (including tasting such beers as Easter Bunny vs. Unicorn from Pipeworks, Pyramid IPA and Stone Old Guardian Barley Wine style Ale) and much more, this is a show that you should check out!

We check in for another installment of the Retrospectical Podcast and deliver you a guide to cutting the cord. We're joined by drinkfive.com contributor Mike Mocerino (pronoinced Moss-er-ino) as we dive into the world of cable alternatives. We take a look at the biggies: Netflix and Hulu, but also examine Amazon Prime, Sling TV, HBO Now and the various streaming sports packages available.
We were lucky enough to enjoy a few rare beers, like the Jai Alai White Oak IPA from Cigar City, straight from Florida. We also had some local flavor in the form of Emmet's Double Talk Double IPA.
We finished up our conversation by discussing the hardware you need to cut the cord, like a Roku, Amazon Fire Stick or Google Chromecast. I think that we all acknowledge the draw of saving money by cutting the cord, but we may be too hooked on our football to let go of it just yet.
Retrospectical Ep 16 - Cord Cutting Guide: Cable Alternatives
Looking back on all of the amazing scientific discoveries of the 20th century, you can easily see how science has helped us grow as a society by leaps and bounds. Even more interesting are the exponential advances that science has brought us since the 2000s. From the success of private spaceflight to the mapping of the human genome, these recent years have turned what used to be only fiction into a reality.
On this podcast, we'll go in-depth into some of the most important scientific discoveries from the past 5 years and discuss their implications as well as present and future applications. Listen in!

The podcast this week is all about lost civilizations - a little history, some of the very strange (and sometimes even otherworldly!) situations surrounding their rise and disappearance, and of course some spirited discussion about what scenarios could have led them to their fates. When we don't have the benefit of historical documentation to follow along with, a lot of the most recognized scientists and anthropologists out there can only make educated guesses as to what happened to these civilizations. We do, however, have a lot of new information since the last time you may have heard of places like Gobekli Tepe and Rapa Nui (Easter Island), for example.

We were joined on the show by quite a few beers, including the inimitable Pabst's Blue Ribbon and some great citrus IPAs including the seasonal Citra Hero by Revolution Brewing. Yum!
